Lynne Anderson is one of Ottawa's premier photographers, specializing in reduction darkroom printing. Having been educated by masters in the field of photography and analog printing, and graduating at the top of her class, Anderson has excelled as a technically proficient fine artist. In the relatively short time she has been producing photo-based art, this photographer has garnered many awards and national acclaim in both print and gallery exhibitions for her work. Most recently in the spring of 2008, Anderson received the professional award for excellence in portraiture from Applied Arts Magazine in Toronto, becoming only the second photographer from Ottawa to do so in the history of the magazine.
As Principal of Lynne Anderson Photographs, founded in 2004, Anderson has photographed people from all over the world. Her passion is Black & White studio portraiture with a strong emphasis on analog darkroom reduction printing - a rarely used, and difficult to master technique, that produces uniquely stunning portraits. Shooting with traditional film, Anderson uses both Hasselblad and 4x5 cameras to capture her subjects. One of her series entitled "Trans" has received much media attention and accolades from highly regarded industry professionals, critics and experts for its challenging subject matter and technical excellence.
A reactionary photographer, Lynne Anderson produces beautifully evocative works and often gravitates to content that is considered controversial. Believing that nothing in life should go unexamined, as in the case of transgendered/transexual men or even road kill (another notable series), she uses the camera to explore provocative or averse subject matter in the hopes that others will see the beauty she sees.
